lyrics

The man looked so frantic, waving his pistol, holding a big burlap sack. The diner fell silent, but never got violent, as we handed over our cash. I had a picture, of her in my wallet; I managed to hide from the thief. I wrote her a letter, in pen on a napkin, and still have that picture with me.

She smiled as the Saint Laurence swallowed her feet, the sky bleeding crimson on ghosts sailing east, I heard whispered hymns shimmer over the surface, I mustered my courage and hoped God would notice, me.

The journalist rambled, detailed a hold up, and quoted the chief of police. A couple good witnesses gave their account; with quivering voices they painted the scene. I held her picture, with cracks at the edges, less faded than my memory. I mailed her letter, I wrote on a napkin, two stamps with the west wind on each.

She smiled as the Saint Laurence swallowed her feet, the sky bleeding crimson on ghosts sailing east, I heard whispered hymns shimmer over the surface, I mustered my courage and hoped God would notice, me.
